Darla Jean Turner, born on April 29, 1950, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, passed away on September 15, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and joyful memories. She was a dedicated mother, loving wife, and cherished friend who made the world brighter through her generous spirit.
Darla embraced life with an infectious enthusiasm that resonated with those around her. She found joy in her work as a self-employed seller of teddy bears and roses, delighting countless individuals with her unique creations. Her ability to brighten days and make people smile was not merely a vocation; it was her life's passion. Darla cherished the simple pleasures in life, from enjoying McDonald's sausage biscuits to playing the piano, and her love for nature was evident in her fond memories of spending time at the lake during her younger years.
Education was important to Darla, and she achieved her associate's degree. The true essence of her character transcended titles and accomplishments. Darla possessed a remarkable ability to connect with others, as beautifully illustrated by her sweet relationship with her brother, Bill, who was twelve years younger than her. The bond they shared reflected the warmth of familial love that permeated her life.
Darla’s heart extended not just to her family but also to her beloved dog, Lulu, with whom she shared a special connection. Throughout her life, she dutifully cared for and nurtured those she held dear.Many remember and celebrate her nurturing nature..
She is survived by her mother, Eleanor Johnson of Broken Arrow; her devoted husband of 24 years, Karl Turner, with whom she shared countless joyful moments; her sons Brett Sanders II and his wife, Jaque, of Tulsa, and Paul Sanders and his wife, Natalie, of Broken Arrow; her stepson Mitchell Leonard and his wife, Lily, of Tulsa; her sister, Sue Johnson of Broken Arrow; and her brother, Bill Johnson, and his wife, Julie, of Bixby. Darla's legacy will continue through her six beloved grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon, Matthew, Jonathan, Lucas, and Noel, as well as her three great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
Darla was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Johnson; her son, Jeffery Sanders; and her first husband, Brett Sanders Sr. ("Papa Boat"), who was the father of her children. Their presence will be felt forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
Darla's life touched many, and her memory will be celebrated during visitation and services held at Roberts and Hart Stilwell Chapel in Stilwell, Oklahoma, on September 22, 2025. The visitation will commence at noon, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. and a burial at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
Though her time with us has come to an end,the spirit of Darla Jean Turnert will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her laughter, her kindness, and her unwavering love will remain a guiding light in the lives she touched.
