Obituary

Margaret Mendonca, 78, of Stilwell, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at her home on May 25, 2026. She was born on February 21, 1948, to Jack and Margaret McCarthy. Margaret lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and an unwavering love for her family.

Margaret never met a stranger. She was known throughout the community for her warm personality, infectious laughter, and kind heart. Whether she was making her rounds to the local gas stations to pick up lottery tickets or visiting her favorite casinos, she enjoyed spending time with people and making connections everywhere she went. The cashiers who knew her by name always looked forward to seeing her walk through the door.

She had a passion for fashion and took pride in always looking her best. Her hair was done, her makeup was flawless, and she carried herself with confidence and style. Margaret also enjoyed playing bingo and loved the excitement of trying her luck whenever she could.

Family was the center of Margaret's world. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who treasured every moment spent with those she loved. She had a spontaneous spirit and a love for travel. If a family member mentioned a place they wanted to visit, it wouldn't be long before Margaret had everyone packed up and on the road to make it happen. She created countless memories through her adventures and shared experiences with her family.

Margaret was also famous for her Thanksgiving pies, a tradition eagerly anticipated by family and friends each year. Her home was a place of love, laughter, and togetherness, and she will be remembered for the joy she brought to every gathering.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Angel Mendonca of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; two sons, Wayne Mendonca of Modesto, California, and Kurt Mendonca of Modesto, California; six grandchildren, Alyssa Love of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, Makena Mendonca of Jamestown, California, Jade Mendonca of Modesto, California, Aubrey Mendonca of Jamestown, California, Robert Mendonca of Modesto, California, and Wyatt Mendonca of Modesto, California; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Jacklyn Petree of Stilwell, Oklahoma; one brother, Johnny McCarthy of Cookson, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Margaret McCarthy; one sister, Sandra Petree; and one brother, Bruce McCarthy.

Though her family mourns her passing, they take comfort in knowing that her laughter, love, and adventurous spirit will live on in the memories she created and the lives she touched. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
