Obituary

Nancy Marion Hume (Joseph), passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, at the age of 86. She was born October 8, 1939, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the beginning of a life that would carry her — quite literally — around the country.

As the devoted wife of James Franklin Hume, Nancy embraced the life of a military spouse with grace, resilience, and an adventurous spirit. Over the years, she and Jim called many places home, from the sun-soaked shores of Honolulu, Hawaii, to the laid-back charm of Key West, Florida, and countless stops in between. Wherever the military sent them, Nancy made it a home — packing up, settling in, and building a life for her family again and again with steady good humor and quiet strength.

Nancy and Jim were blessed with six sons. Their second born, Dale, passed away in infancy, and Nancy and Jim went on to raise five boys together. She often joked that she never did get that girl she may have hoped for — but as her sons grew up and, one by one, brought wives into the family, she finally got her wish many times over.

Still, the truest joy of Nancy's life was her grandchildren. She loved them fiercely, wholly, and without reservation. She was the grandmother in the front row cheering the loudest when her grandsons wrestled, her voice rising above the crowd with unmistakable pride. And she was just as devoted sitting quietly at the ballet, always with a tissue tucked in her purse — not for sorrow, but ready for the tears of happiness that came so easily to her when she watched any of her grandchildren shine.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Franklin Hume; her infant son, Dale Hume; her son, Darrin Hume; her mother, Anna Dine Joseph Joyce (Skapa); her father, William Harry Joseph, Sr.; and her brothers, John Joseph and William Joseph.

She is survived by her sons, Dirk Hume and wife Kathy of Broken Arrow, OK, Dudley Hume and wife Brenda of Webbers Falls, OK, Darrel Hume and wife Stacy of Sallisaw, OK, and Daniel Hume and wife Dayna of Stilwell, OK; her grandchildren, Candace Hume, Joshua Hume, Grant Hume, Cydney Hume, Hilary Hume, Hunter Hume, Jacob Hume, Tyson Hume, and Hadley Hume; 8 great-grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Ann LaRosa, and husband William; and

many nieces, nephews, and a whole host of friends and relatives who were blessed to know and love her.

Nancy's life was one of devotion — to her husband, to her sons, and above all, to her grandchildren, who knew without question how deeply and fiercely they were loved. She now joins her husband, sons, parents, and brothers, reunited once more.

Nancy was proudly serving as President of American Legion Post #102 at the time of her illness.
